I’m 18 and want to start investing online. I need to know more about the stock market though.

Basically, I need a book that breaks down the stock market, that explains all the Wall Street lingo and terms and strategies.

I’ve already checked out a book called "Never Buy Another Stock Again" that was supposed to explain things…It didn’t, I read the first chapter and was completely lost.

Please help, any suggestions would be appreciated.

For the most part, I understand the concept of buying/selling stocks. I am a little confused on some things though: For example, if I buy 200 dollars worth of shares for whatever company, is it possible to lose more than 200 dollars? Say the company goes bankrupt within a few months of me purchasing the shares, will I owe them more money, or do they just keep my 200 dollars? Another thing I’m confused about is dividends. From my understanding, the company is paying you (monthly, annually, etc) a certain percentage of their profits. I hear that it is a lot less risky than buying/selling stocks, but I also hear you can lose money from dividends as well, if this is true, how is this possible? I understand they can go bankrupt and stop paying me dividends, but does this mean I would owe them money? My main concern is losing more money than I started with. So if I start with 500 dollars, invest it all, and years later a company goes bankrupt and I lose 2000 dollars, but still have more than my original 500 dollars, it’s still a profit in my eyes. Any help is appreciated!
Tyler, I couldn’t ask for a better answer. I am definitely going to keep my eye on stocks and when I feel comfortable I’ll start buying/selling. I am currently playing Wall Street Survivor, the ’stock market simulation’ so I can get some experience without risking any loss. Thanks for all the help!

It began the end of slavery in the west which would take more than a century, but eventually would result in freedom of slaves in the Americas and Europe and the west in general

Now in the 21st century world slavery is on the rise but for the most part gone in the west. I would love some recommendations on special exhibits or things done on Wall Street or London by the financial institutions remmembering the event. I am going to London and would love to see any exhibits England has regarding the end of slave trade in 1807

I already read the New York Times everyday but I heard that reading the Wall Street Journal and Investor’s Business Daily are good supplements when getting into the stock market. Any other tips? I have a 2nd round interview at a new trading company on Wall Street tomorrow. I’ve been to the offices, they seem nice, very new as it is a start up. However, the interviewers have stressed that there is no salary and won’t be making any money for the first 6 months or so, and they ask if I can be financially stable for that time. Is this some sort of scam? They haven’t mentioned anything about me paying them to invest, yet; just saying how I won’t make money in the beginning. I just graduated from a top 30 university, what do you think they are trying to do here? Should I continue to interview or move on? Thanks!

Had Fannie and Freddie not been mandated by our government to write sub-prime and risky loans, those securities being traded and sold would have held their value. In addition, how could these companies not see that the real estate they were writing loans for was way overvalued yet they continued to write "zero down", " no credit, bad credit, no problem" loans?

Please explain how Wall Street is more to blame than Freddie and Fannie. I’m willing to learn.
