Is it better to do this type of leveraged trading if one doesn’t have a lot of money to fool around with? Can it indeed be learned from books and/or internet, maybe practicing on virtual trading platforms and if so, can one become proficient in this type of trading in less than a year, let’s say?

Everything I know about the stock market can be written on the back of a postage stamp and still have room left to play a game of tic-tac-toe. I am just starting to read about the market and everything says that there are no guarantees when it comes to the market. Are there stocks that are close?

I am referring to Wal-Mart and I am hoping that someone can clarify something for me. I worked there years ago when I was 17 and they gave us the option to put some of our money in their stock and I did. I didnt have a clue about anything but the money meant little to me at that time so I didnt really care about the risks or anything else. It just so happens that the stock split (if I remember correctly) and I quit a short time after that. I was only seasonal help but I still remember that they cut me a decent check from the sale of my piddly stock.

Wal-Mart stock seems to be pretty solid just by glancing at its past stock prices. There have been times when the stock plummeted but also times when it was riding high like when I worked there around 1998.

In any case, would an investment in Wal-Mart stock be as close as you can get to a sure thing if you dont mind sitting on the stock? Lets say that the stock hits 40 dollars a share and I buy 125 shares for a total of 5000 dollars. Could I sit on that stock until it climbs back to around 50 and then sell the stocks for a gain on 10 dollars on every share I owned for a profit of 1250 dollars?

I dont want to sound like I have figured out some magic formula because I realize that I know nothing. I want someone to tell me if my thinking is correct and if so, what other expenses would you have to account for? Taxes on the 1240? What about fees associated with the sale? What would a typical charge be for something like that?

Any help would be appreciated.

Okay so I’m a rookie investor and have a plan, but after reading books and looking at yahoo finance I am completely confused….So I understand how the market works I know throwing 10gs in any old stock is a big mistake. My plan was to invest in stocks and trade pretty quickly, here’s how it goes. I fould a broker that only cost .95 per trade so that would maxamize my profits. I would buy (xyz) stock at 34.11 in the morning on monday then wait and see if it rose by tuesday night and if it did rise to 34.88 sell it or if it took a few extra days to rise to 34.88 then sell it (I’m using this as an example doesnt have to be exact…) but what is confusing me is the bid and ask and how on yahoo finance sometimes the ask is more then the bid of the bid is more then the ask…so that really hurt my idea because i may not be able to walk away with money….so if you see any other problems or a way i could make this work please let me know! thanks!

i’ve somehow met a lot of people that trade forex. I trade the other 2 relatively well.

I’ve never traded forex before, but after looking at the charts for a few currency pairs, 2 observations:

1. There were many bear traps and other kinds of manipulations, almost as if some large fund / bank was triggering buy signals only to sell out.

2. It looked like there were many algorithms going off.

3. Common indicators didn’t really show much efficacy.

It could just be the particular pairs I was looking at during that point in time, but my impression was that it is a lot easier to make money from commodities, which has much more meaningful trends.

So why do people trade forex?
Do people actually find meaningful patterns to trade off of regularly?
It seems much more difficult.

Hello there,

I had a question. I had a honda civic lease, I ended up going to Kia and leasing a new soul, I was under 90 days on my old lease. they assessed my car at kia, and i actually had positive equity, they bought out my honda and gave me credit, paid off the rest of my honda lease and I now lease a kia soul. my question is would i owe honda any more money? i signed off on the miles on the honda and i have it in my lease paperwork that i traded it in at kia. any help would be appreciated, thank you.

on my honda lease contract there was no disposition fee, and the only wear and tear would be two back tires. on the honda. kia said they bought out the car so would that mean i would still get hit with those charges? they said no, but i know car dealers aren’t your friends.
