(NOT A DAY TRADING QUESTION LIKE MY PREVIOUS QUE’S WERE).. I have read a few full books now that focus directly on chart analysis and technical analysis (stock market). However, none of the books gave any specific information on how to go about finding charts with the desired bullish patterns/trends/breakouts etc. They did mention that I would need to analyze the market averages (DJIA, NASDAQ, NYSE etc) to find the one with the smallest downslides (considering the market falls together and rises together, so when it falls, look for the market average that fell the least?) cuz that is where the smart money will be, and then to find out which index of that market is the best, And then to find the best individual stock. However, the bookS said nothing about how to go about doing any of that.. which is really the most important part. Can somebody please teach me how to do this. I have been searching blindly through charts of random companies, and feel I am wasting way to much time, not finding anything that looks too good. ALSO, If anybody wants to mail me directly with tips of charts that may be promising, I will be more than busting my b..rain to return the favor (finding a good hit). Any and all tips etc would be greatly appreciated and returned. However, the most important thing right now, is how do I find where the big money is!? Thank you

How they word it is rather confusing.

In a five day trading week does this mean I can only make 3 trades.

Or does it mean I can only make 3 trades a day

Or does it mean I can’t trade the same equity 3 times in the same day.

Since for day trading, purchase/ sale of a equity should be closed before market hours, I want to adopt the above method. I will wait 1 hour before closing and then square up if it is not done at the chosen values. Will it be beneficial? Any problem in doing this? Pl. comment

I read that an account will be marked as a day trading account if I trade 4 or more times within 5 days and then restrictions will be applied. It says that I will need ,000 in equity. If a tax payer is operating a day trading business what is the easiest way to report gains and/or losses in Turbotax Business if the broker is not on the import list? Is filing on paper the only option?

If they are in same category, ETF share prices tend to about 6 or 7 times more expensive than their seeming counterparts in mutual funds. I understand ETF’s benefits over mutual funds such as low turn over rate creating less capital gains tax, lower expense ratio, no min investment, no short term redemption fee, intra day trading and etc…. However, index mutual fund can come close to that also at much lower prices…… Anyone know why ETF share prices tend to be noticeably higher than mutual fund share prices?
With ETF, it’s much easier to take advantage of dollar cost averaging due to there being no min initial investment nor min additional investment, but the share prices are expensive.
With ETF, there are companies that will waive commissions if you trade their ETFs which is my intent.

Hi, I’m interested into getting into day trading in the future and had a question about partial fills (ie: you place an order for 1,000 shares, but only get a fill for 100 at a particular price).

How many shares (or amount of equity) of a heavily traded Fortune 500 company can you typically trade in a single transaction without getting partial fills. What about if you use Market orders vs. Limit Orders?

For instance, if you were to place an order for 0,000 of Google stock via a Market order, would you typically get the entire order filled immediately? What about if you try to sell 0,000 at Market?

What about if you do Limit orders vs. Market orders?

I would like to be able to trade very large quantities frequently during the day and would like to know if I’m going to need to account for partial fills.

(In response): Thanks, yes, I’ve been doing analysis for a couple of years now and know enough to be dangerous =).

The reason I mentioned the dollar amount as opposed to the number of shares is my assumption that there is a rough dollar amount to when you start reaching limits as opposed to quantities of shares.

For instance, which is more likely to get a partial fill (all other things being equal):

200 shares of a 0.00 stock
2,000 shares of a .00 stock

Is it better to day trader larger value stocks to reduce the chance of a partial fill or does it not matter?

What is the details of the proposed new trading tax?

Does it apply to all commodity and equity, future etc?
0.2% is quite big coming out of the transaction.

Especially for those day trading, and those trade to get 1 – 2 % per trade.
Does this apply to everyone trading US equities, commdities and future?

Or only those living in US?

I know it doesnt pass yet, but If for everyone, how do they apply this tax on foreigner? Perhaps simply having the exchange deduct the 0.2%? Or simply no details on this yet.
